The Madibaz Day Expo will give NMMU staff a chance to show and share what they do within every aspect of their work at the University.

From Admissions through to Zoology, each component of NMMU is being given the opportunity to reflect on what it has achieved in 10 years and share it will the rest of the university during the exhibition on Monday 11 May in the Indoor Centre from 11am to 3pm.

Faculties, for example, have been asked to incorporate units, centres and entities allied to their work, into their stall because of obvious space constraints. Others, like the Centre for the Advancement of Non-Racialism, and the NMMU Trust, for example, which are not part of the traditional Open Day, will receive new stalls.

We appreciate that the turn-around time is very short, but since many are already planning for Open Day, please also work Madibaz Day into your plans. There are prizes for the best stalls.

How you showcase your contribution to NMMU is up to you, but here are some ideas to get the creative juices going:

  • Photographs of highlights, special events, staff members
  • Certificates, awards, trophies
  • Displays of what you do or have done
  • A running PowerPoint capturing what you do or have done
  • Posters (perhaps one that captures all the parties involved)
  • Stories about successful graduates
  • Newspaper clippings
  • Research and/ or other publications
  • Demonstrations
  • Flyers
  • Publications
  • Share news of infrastructure growth, refurbishment or new facilities

Please also take note of the following in your planning:

  • The stalls are 3m x 2m unless your faculty, school or department has already booked a bigger stall for Open Day
  • Please confirm you team’s attendance with lulama.qwabe@nmmu.ac.za
  • There will be security at the Indoor Sports Centre for the entire weekend and leading up to Madibaz Day
  • You are encouraged to send a representative to the next Open Day workshop between 12pm and 2pm on 30 April at the Conference Centre, North Campus, for more insights on Madibaz Day
  • All equipment must be removed immediately after the expo at 3pm as the stalls will be dismantled for an event the following day

If you are reading this and do not know of your team’s involvement, please contact your faculty, school or department to ensure that they are planning for the big day and that your team is being included. If nothing appears to be happening, however, please alert us via lulama.qwabe@nmmu.ac.za
